What happens if I book now but have to cancel due to Covid-19 or the weather?

We are flexible if a trip cannot proceed as planned your deposit will be refunded or you can choose to book a later date.

What will we be catching?

The primary target specie will be walleye with the occasional trout or salmon.  The sportfishing license allows up to 6 walleye per angler and a combination of 5 trout or salmon per angler.  The conservation license allows 2 of each specie.

What are your rates?

The cost of the charter will be $700 for up to 4 people and $850 for 5 persons.

Can I bring children along?

Yes.  We encourage family groups and children should be aged 8 years or older to avoid motion sickness.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, Captain John is fully Transport Canada approved and fully insured.  

Will you clean or catch?

Yes, fish cleaning is available at an additional cost of $4.00 per pound cleaned weight.

Is there a washroom onboard?

Yes, a head (portable toilet) is onboard located in the cuddy cabin for privacy.

What should we bring with us?

Please bring a valid Ontario fishing license which needs to be on your person.  Ontario residents over 65 and under 18  do not need a fishing license.
Appropriate warm/cool clothes and rainwear depending on the season and conditions.
A large cooler to bring home your catch.
Polarized sunglasses.
Sunscreen and hat.
Snacks/lunch/water or soft drinks.
Alcoholic beverages and drugs are not allowed to be transported on the vessel.

Do you have children's life jackets (PDF)?

Yes, please supply the weights for the children attending the charter so the Captain will know the appropriate life jacket required.  Children under 12 years of age are required to wear a TC approved life jacket (PDF).

What if I have to cancel my trip?

Cancellations made 10 days or more prior to your scheduled trip will get a full refund.  Cancellations made 2-7 days prior to your scheduled trip will incur a cancellation charge of $200.00.  Refunds will not be given if you or anyone in your party fails to obtain a valid Ontario fishing license if required.  Seasickness or motion sickness does not warrant a refund of all or any portion of your charter.

When should I arrive for my trip?

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time to maximize your time on the water.  If you are late, our fish catch guarantee will not apply and our scheduled return time to the port will not change.

How long will the charter last?

The length of the charter (weather depended) will be 5 hours dock to dock if the starting times are met.  In the event the group catches their limit before the scheduled ending time the charter will be over and we will be returning to port.

Do you require contact information.

Yes.  Covid-19 and Transport Canada rules are in effect.  The Captain will require the names and phone numbers of all passengers 48 hours before their scheduled charter date.

About Us

Captain John has been fishing since he was old enough to hold a fishing pole and started out on ponds and along the banks of the Grand River.  It didn't matter what was biting as long has they had fins.  John honed his skills on many species after wading and canoeing to find what he was looking for.  After fishing the the Great Lakes for over 30 years Captain John can provide a unique fishing experience.
